恋人の8歳の息子に暴行を加えたりして死亡させた男に死刑を、
男の子の母親に終身刑を言い渡しました。」

法律上、8歳以下の子どもをこうして死に至らしめた場合は
最低でも　懲役25年　となっている

(a) Any person, having the care or custody of a child who is under eight years of age,
who assaults the child by means of force that to a reasonable person
would be likely to produce great bodily injury, resulting in the child’s death,
shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for 25 years to life.


弁護人は過去の量刑を基準にしているようだが、体罰を禁止する
虐待法も成立。国際的な潮流を考えると、より近代的な量刑に処すべき。
