Heptares is Currently Based in Welwyn Garden City but will be Moving to a brand New Research Facility at Granta Park (Cambridge) in July 2018.
Heptares has been Operating Approximately 130 Employees who will all be based in this New Research Facility.
Heptares and Imperial College seeking to rapidly advance drug discovery and translational research focused on multiple new and existing GPCR disease target.

Lung deflation using combination long-acting beta-agonist (LABA) and muscarinic antagonist (LAMA) therapy results in improved cardiac function in patients
with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) with pulmonary hyperinflation, according to results from the CLAIM trial.
"The amount of interaction between airway obstruction and hyperinflation and cardiac parameters was really surprising,”
Dr. Tobias Welte from Hannover Medical School in Germany told Reuters Health by email.
“We expected an increase in left ventricular end-diastolic volume by about 6% in our study calculation, but reached more than 10% increase finally,” he said.
“This demonstrates that there is a huge impairment of pulmonary blood flow in hyperinflated patients; hyperinflation and left ventricular function are directly correlated.”
LABA-LAMA combinations are more effective than LABA-inhaled corticosteroid combinations for reducing lung hyperinflation.
But whether LABA-LAMA combinations improve cardiac function remains unclear.
Dr. Welte and colleagues investigated the effects of the inhaled once-daily LABA-LAMA combination indacaterol-glycopyrronium on left-ventricular end-diastolic volume (LVEDV)
as a surrogate for cardiac function in their two-period,
placebo-controlled crossover study of 62 patients with COPD and pulmonary hyperinflation (residual volume >135% predicted).
After 14 days of active treatment, mean LVEDV indexed to body surface area increased by approximately 10% from baseline, compared with no change after placebo treatment,
the team reports in The Lancet Respiratory Medicine, online February 21. There was an accompanying, significant increase in cardiac index, right-ventricular end-diastolic volume (RVEDV), and right- and left-ventricular stroke volume.
In post hoc analysis, there was a significant inverse association between change in hyperinflation and change in LVEDV and RVEDV.
Cardiac safety parameters did not differ significantly between the treatment and placebo groups.
“A huge amount (every second or third) of patients suffers from both cardiac and pulmonary disease,” Dr. Welte said.
“In consequence, cardiologists have to look for pulmonary disease in addition to cardiac diagnosis, and the same is true for chest physicians with regard to heart disease.
In addition, the study demonstrates the importance of hyperinflation, which strongly correlates to cardiac parameters.
Chest physicians must have a closer look at hyperinflation.”
“There is an effect of pulmonary pathology on heart function, which has to be taken into account for the treatment strategy,” he said.
The authors of the new report “provide substantial evidence of an ever-present relationship linking pulmonary hyperinflation with altered cardiac hemodynamics,”
write Dr. Gregory A. Payne and Dr. J. Michael Wells from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in a linked editorial.
“The results of their trial further substantiate calls for early interventions to reduce hyperinflation as a means of preventing related cardiac comorbidities.”
“More importantly,” they conclude,
“their preliminary findings emphasize the need for continued prospective clinical trials to investigate novel strategies to reduce cardiovascular events in patients with COPD.”
