Applicants should be familiar with expression and purification of membrane proteins from baculovirus/insect cells and/or mammalian cells. Previous experience of working with GPCRs would be an advantage, as would purifying proteins for study by X-ray diffraction or cryoEM, or analysis by other biophysical methods such as mass spec or SPR. Molecular biology experience would also be an advantage. Job summary: We are seeking a Post-Doctoral Scientist with a background in engineering or physical sciences to develop and apply advanced contrast enhanced ultrasound imaging and analysis techniques and investigate the role of stimulation of intestinal growth factors on intestinal health. The successful applicant will develop advanced techniques and tools using ultrafast ultrasound and microbubble contrast agents for imaging and quantifying both tissue structure and macro- and micro- vascular flow, and then apply them to in vivo pre-clinical models to assess intestinal motility, growth and barrier function, and gastric motility and acid secretion in experimental models, with the aim to develop novel strategies to combat intestinal failure. Recent advances in very high frame rate / ultrafast ultrasound, combined with microbubbles, promises unprecedented sensitivity and resolution in imaging micro-vascular structure and flow. ・The project is a partnership between Imperial College London and Heptares Therapeutics. ・You will be working as part of a team with Dr Mengxing Tang, Professor Kevin Murphy, Professor Mark Thurz and Professor Adrian Lim at Imperial College and Dr Alastair Brown at Heptares Therapeutics. A leading department of biomedical engineering among UK Universities, the Department of Bioengineering at Imperial College London has consistently been awarded exceptional research ratings, including in the 2014 REF assessment, in which 95% of the Department’s returned research was judged world leading and internationally excellent.
Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant £32,380 to £34,040 per annum.
